Medical Tourism
What is Medical Tourism?
Medical Tourism is the practice of obtaining medical treatment outside ones own country.

Why do patients seek medical treatment abroad?
There are many factors that have led to the increasing popularity of medical travel including the high cost of health care, long waiting times for certain procedures, the ease and affordability of international travel, and improvements in both technology and standards in health care in many countries.

What is a Medical Tourism provider?
A Medical Tourism provider is an organization that seeks to bring together a prospective patient with a hospital or a clinic. These groups are generally facilitators and developers of medical tourism, which brings into play a number of issues that do not apply when a patient stays within their own country of origin. Medical Quality standards very around the world, and international accreditation are relatively new. For these reasons, potential clients may face unknowns and risk related to quality, safety and ethics. Medical Tourists seek health tourism providers to provide them information about the quality, safety and legal issues, but the quality of such information and services varies.

What should I bring?
Below is a list of things you may want to bring with you to the hospital in preparation for your surgery.

•  Personal grooming items that you may want to pack include a toothpaste, hairbrush, eyeglasses/contacts, comb, deodorant, shaving cream/electric razor, shampoo, lotion, undergarments, and a robe.

•  Bring slippers or flat rubber-soled shoes for walking in the hallways.

•  Bring loose fitting clothing for your trip home.

•  Bring any medications you are currently taking. You should also write down your medication information to be given to the hospital staff.  Be sure to include the name, strength, and how often you take the medications.  If you use a breathing exerciser (IBE), be sure to bring it with you from home, as you will probably need this right after surgery.

To whom do I pay the medical fees?
Patients pay the medical fees directly to the hospital.
